West Australian Mandolin Orchestra

The West Australian Mandolin Orchestra (WAMO) was founded in 1976. The ensemble specialises in performing music written specifically for the plucked string family of instruments. These in include Mandolin, Mandola, Guitar and Bass. The repertoire ranges from baroque to modern, world music to contemporary. Affiliations with interstate and overseas Orchestras has given the players opportunities to share their music with similar minded players. and continues through the parent body of FAME (Federation of Australasian Mandolin Ensembles). WAMO will host the net FAME Mandolin Festival in Perth in January 2022. Currently with about 26 players WAMO performs in and around Perth about 4 times per year. Concerts are held in venues selected to highlight the natural acoustic sounds of the instruments and often in collaboration with other Community music ensembles.
