Eastwinds began as a trio in 2013 not long after Persian Ney and Daf master, Esfandiar Shahmir arrived here from Iran. For this year’s festival, we are returning to that trio format, based on our work as a quartet and now trio with the national Musica Viva-in-Schools touring program. This is a performance that uses the intimate space of the venue to take an exploratory dive into how the breath creates an extraordinary pallet of sound among these three very different and unique wind players. Breath is an exploratory journey into new, ancient and imagined landscapes and how the breath is the essential thread of life and music that connects cultures. Between these three players a world of sound is a breath away.
