WA Acoustic News (WAAN) is a privately maintained free email newsletter of folk, acoustic, roots and related musical activities in Perth and Fremantle. You'll usually get one message per week, usually on Wednesday or Thursday evening.
TO JOIN - please email mcnairmusic@iinet.net.au
Subscribers' email addresses will not be disclosed to any other person, under any circumstances. If somebody is looking for a contact for someone on the list, WAAN will forward the enquiry directly to that person.
Here's how it works. The list runs more or less like a list server, except it's not automatic (that means it shuts down from time to time). Any subscriber can send information to the list, by sending a message to the address above. The management will then check it for suitability and forward it to the list, while reserving the right to make arbitrary decisions at any time!
If you want to unsubscribe at any time, just send a message to this address with "unsubscribe WAAN" in the subject line and I will remove you immediately.
If you know anyone who might enjoy being on this list, please tell them about it and refer them to this page.
If you might want to send info to the list yourself, read on. Otherwise, that's all you need to know. Enjoy the list!

============================================= Guidelines for posting to WAAN
The scope of the list is restricted to folk, traditional and world music. This inevitably starts off the "what is folk" discussion, to which the WAAN answer is "music with its roots in local traditions". This gets very hazy at times, especially with regard to singer/songwriters. WAAN generally draws the line of relevance somewhere between recognisable folk-related acoustic singer songwriters (whose songs aren't exclusively about themselves) and full-on pop/rock acts, but it's a very fuzzy line. Commercial mainstream events generally won't get publicised on WAAN. We generally don't include mainstream blues events, although the acoustic country-blues end of the spectrum might get a mention.
- Please ensure that posting request contains the letters "WAAN" in the title We all get masses of irrelevent spam gig postings, so unless you identify yours clearly it will probably get flicked unread.
- The prime purpose of the list is to publicise upcoming folk, roots and world music gigs anywhere in Western Australia, but other relevant news (e.g. new bands forming, possible tours, radio or TV shows) may be considered. Regular residencies generally won't be posted more than once in a while.
- Gigs can be posted generally within two weeks of the date (sometimes further out for especially newsworthy events).
- Postings should be short and to the point - name of act, venue, time and date, ticket pricing and availability, one or two sentences about the event and maybe a bried biog. Please make sure the date, time and place are clearly stated on separate lines at the top of the message. All information should be in plain text format - no images, no photos.
- PLEASE don't send anything in attachments, they will not be opened. And please don't send big slabs of advertising copy, 50 words or so should do. Website links are fine.
- Please don't send me any email petitions (they are invariably a waste of time), virus warnings (they are invariably hoaxes), chain letters or any other form of spam.
- We are very careful careful about using Blind Carbon Copy so that the full list of addresses is not broadcast. This is a deliberate policy to protect confidentiality and prevent spamming. If we forget occasionally, please respect the privacy of other subscribers and don't pass on their addresses. Thanks.
- Once again - please, no attachments! They won't get opened. I will only pass on information which comes as plain text in the body of an email message - plain text format please, not htm format messages with megabytes of unnecessary graphics.
