Children's festival

Little people get ready to be entertained and enthralled, inspired and involved at this year’s Children’s Festival!

Returning for 2010 are the all-time favourites, The Chipolatas. Getting up to their usual antics, both on stage and off, these three boys from England sure know how to put on a rip-roaring show filled with juggling, fiddling, laughing and...onions. Another special treat comes from Adam Hall & The Velvet Playboys, performing one of their first ever kid’s shows. Get involved in the music making process and have a dance with this well known and very popular Western Australian group.

Dream State Circus will share two exciting shows, Fliptastic and Kinetic Soup as well as run circus workshops behind Belfast Cottage – learn how to juggle balls or spin some plates!

Accompany Spiderfish Stew on the ukulele, whistle or kazoo, as they sing about animals, fruit and other strange and marvellous things. The Mucky Duck Bush Band will get you up on your feet and groovin’, while The Peppercorns will need your help solving the mystery of Old MacDonald and his wife, Nelly.

In keeping with our Crossing Rhythms theme, Wadumbah are set for some traditional Noongar dance and stories. Richard Niyoyankuze & The Burundi Children's Choir will show how traditional African music is a way to survive and celebrate life.

Everyone bring your musical instruments, songs and dances to the Kidz Kaperz – where you get to be the entertainment in front of a live audience.

Club West will be filled with fun workshops again. For the really really little ones (under 5’s) Little Notes focuses on the fundamental skills to develop musicality. For some early morning stretching and balancing, join in with Animal Yoga. Come back later in the day and immerse yourself in Theatresports or Table Top Puppets (make your very own).

The Kids Craft Club will be bustling again with kids of all ages welcome to join our completely sustainable workshops. Owing to the support of the Community Arts Network of Western Australia (CANWA) our hands-on, sustainable workshops will be run by professional artists from all over WA. Go for 2 & 5 Cooking Classes will help you cook up a storm out of the Retreat Kitchen to help keep those hunger pangs away.

Look out for stiltwalkers and seagulls, littering the streets with hilarity and fun. The Children’s Festival isn’t just for kids – there’s enough here to keep mum and dad happy too. But if you want them to leave you to it, just send them off to another marquee. Non-stop entertainment throughout the festival means they won’t get bored, and neither will you!
